Description

Halite is a sodium chloride crystal with a hardness of 2. Its crystal pattern is cubic, and it can also occur in compact, granular or massive habits. It is an evaporate mineral, formed by the evaporation of sea water, and is often associated with other evaporates such as Calcite, Anhydrite and Gypsum. Halite is soluble in water, so those using these crystals should be careful to keep them dry. Halite is found in widespread areas around the Earth, although some specialized types occur only in certain locations.
