Description
Purple Sage Agate is a member of the Quartz family, a silicon dioxide mineral with a hardness of 7. Its crystal system is hexagonal (trigonal). It occurs only in eastern Oregon. Purple Sage Agate ranges in color from pale lavender to purplish black, and many pieces also display black lines and dendriric formations. The material is quite hard, relatively free from fractures, and takes a high polish. Though relatively new to the marketplace, it is a popular cabochon stone for jewellery.
