Description

Ulexite is a sodium calcium borate mineral with a hardness of 2.5. Its crystal structure is triclinic, and it forms in rounded aggregates, tufted masses or fibrous structures. Ulexite is either white or colorless. It is found in evaporate localities for ulexite is the desert of the American Southwest. Slices of colorless ulexite have a unique fiber optic property. If the slice is placed upon another object, such as a newspaper the images of the object will seem to appear at the top surface of the slice, similar to the way television images appear on the screen. This has earned ulexite the nickname TV stone.
