Albite is a type of plagioclase feldspar, a sodium aluminium silicate mineral with a hardness of 6. Its crystal structure is triclinic and is made up of a lattice of tetrahedral molecules. The macroscopic forms of these crystals can be tabular, platy, massive, granular or lamellar. It can be colorless, white, brown, reddish or blue. Albite often occurs as a component of pegmatite, granite, rhyolite, schists, gneisses and sedimentary rocks. It can also be found in its pure form in pockets of hydrothermal veins. Albite occurs all over the world, and some of the finest crystal specimens come from Greenland.
