Description

Magnetite is an iron oxide mineral with a hardness of 5.5 to 6.5. It occurs as octahedral crystals, and in granular or massive form. Magnetite is highly magnetic, as implied by its name. It attracts iron fillings and can deflect a compass needle. Magnetite can be found in Sweden, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Italy, and in New York and Utah in the USA.
